Many work places require people to wear safety glasses. Millions of people who wear glasses in the United States work are places where safety glasses are provided. These people usually have two choices. They can wear uncomfortable safety goggles over their eye glasses or they can get cheap prescription glasses fitted for safety.
Prescription safety glass frames use to be quite homely. Today safety glasses offer a wider range of styles and colors. Of course they are still larger than regular glasses and not quite as fashionable but they are a far cry from the heavy, clunky safety glasses of old.
Even though prescription safety glasses are not the most glamorous glasses you will ever own, you still need to take care in purchasing them, especially if you are footing the bill.
You will want them to last as long as possible so make sure you purchase a quality pair.
Some employers pay for your prescription safety glasses. These glasses can be used as street glasses if the need arises. Most of the side shields on the frames are detachable so you can take them off if you had to.
When choosing lenses for your safety glasses, try to get scratch resistance ones. They generally cost a little more but they will last a lot longer. Regular lenses scratch easily and you will have to replace them quite often.
If you do have to purchase your own safety glasses make sure you keep your receipts.
The cost of the glasses can be deducted from your income taxes in most cases. Your accountant or tax prepare will be able to determine how much you can deduct.
